About
About me
I’m Tim. Language, law, and numbers are what really interest me — from rhetoric and economic relationships to formulations that need to be right down to the last comma. Technology inevitably finds its way into all of that, too.
I spend most of my time working on things that I use myself and therefore want to get right. This website is one example: its own contact form, a bilingual structure, and legal texts that are actually maintained rather than simply checked off a list.
At UtopiaGaming e. V., a children’s and youth organisation based in Lübeck, I organise events and holiday programmes. That includes everything from planning and running them to the follow-up afterwards. As an auditor, I also review the organisation’s finances and check whether the figures add up and are properly documented.
I care more about something working reliably, being clearly written, and not taking advantage of anyone than about making it look finished as quickly as possible. That applies to code just as much as it does to writing and association work.
Interests
Topics that keep me interested alongside my actual work.
Law & legal texts
I enjoy reading statutes, contracts, and terms and conditions. Not because I have to, but because I’m fascinated by the precision of German legal language. A good legal text leaves little room for ambiguity — and that is exactly the point.
Language & rhetoric
The right tone, a well-structured argument, and the right wording: good language is a craft. It doesn’t happen by accident, and it can be learned and practised.
Music
Music is almost always part of my day. I listen, try to understand, and occasionally experiment myself. Music has fascinated me since childhood. I started learning to play the violin at a young age.
Numbers & economics
Key figures, balance sheets, and economic relationships all interest me. As an auditor at UtopiaGaming e. V., I also get to deal with numbers in practice. More generally, I’m interested in the stories numbers can tell — and in recognising when they might be telling a different story than they appear to at first glance.
